Chalice coral is a species of large polyp stony corals in the family Lobophylliidae. It is a colonial coral which is partly encrusting and partly forms laminate plates/tiers. Typically a slow growing coral, the species is known to exhibit both an encrusting habit when placed near aquarium glass, as well as a plating habit when housed in open areas.

Care of Chalice Coral is fairly simple as long as you maintain immaculate water conditions. Chalice Coral prefers horizontal placement in areas of low to moderate light and water movement. Please remember that the Chalice Coral can readily adapt to different amounts of lighting.

Chalice Coral can produce sweeper tentacles that can harm more docile corals and invertebrates. Please be sure to provide sufficient space between the Chalice Coral and other corals because of its semi-aggressive temperament.

Chalice Coral feeds mostly at night. It benefits from small pieces of meaty marine food, such as baby brine shrimp, or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates. For continued good health, Chalice Coral benefits from the addition of calcium, strontium, iodine, magnesium and trace elements to the water column.
